Today an essential part of my childhood took its place amongst fairies, faraway trees and castles in Never Never Land. Michael Jackson left for that place where all legends go. Of course, it’s been a while since I outgrew the Wacko Jacko magic that had once filled my dreams and days with music. But today, his demise nonetheless leaves a vacuum that no one can replace. Fifty years that marked an epoch in music. Personally, his legacy to me was a love for music, a beautiful escape. He was the original larger than life. Any accolade bestowed on him was an accolade to his fans. There was no one like him and there never will be. The King of Pop was more than a singer, dancer or entertainer. He was Michael Jackson. And everybody knew his name.
